Last month I mentioned that we are having an employee engagement, recruitment, and retention program on Thursday, October 12. Kristine Sexter will be presenting information on how to reward employees that costs little or nothing.

Many of you know that I have been hiring and leading teams for over 40 years. That sounds like I am ancient. When I was a divisional director of a career development based on the west coast, I substantially reduced turnover. I met Kristine in 1997 and the
first thing that I noticed about her was that she put language to what I found was effective, but could not articulate.

Every time I hear her speak, I learn something new. Recently, I was asking for a contribution to support this event and I was asked, “Do you think that I don’t know how to hire people?”

Those of us who do hiring, know what works in our business. But if I can gain a little insight into improving the process, the team will be more productive and our customers will see a difference. There are challenges working with boomers, millennials and everyone in between. And the reverse is true when it comes to
working the leadership team. Art Mann with Hillsboro Economic Development, Dr. Pam Boehm with Hill College, The Chamber and Randy Pretzer with Bossier Chrysler Dodge Ram along with the chamber are sponsoring the Event. I would like to have a major corporate sponsor because Kristine will spend Wednesday, October 11, in the afternoon with the leadership of that organization in a private consultative setting.

Wednesday evening, Kristine will speak at Hill College to College and High School Students on how to get prepared for the
Workforce. I believe that we need to develop an employment pipeline and develop talent early to meet the demands of a
changing workforce. Thursday morning she will speak at a breakfast meeting, lunch will be provided with more information and she will have a presentation for first line supervisors discussing the challenges in the workplace in mid afternoon. On September 12 we will have a Manufacturers and Big Business Breakfast to discuss business challenges. After receiving several
requests, we will have a JOB FAIR on November 4, 2017. More information will sent out next week
