Hill County Kids

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday, January 10th 2023 to celebrate and recognize the remarkable mission and achievements of the Hill County Kids organization, and the work they do to feed children.

The Chamber works to support and strengthen the incredible nonprofits in our area that keep our community strong. A special thank you to Church on the Hill and Hill County Kids’ volunteers and supporters that get weekend meals and snacks to children who need them.

Hill County Kids is a program designed to feed the school age children of Hill County on the weekends, when school lunch programs are not available to them. They began serving the students in 2010 after finding that up to 83% of Hillsboro’s school children were relying on the free or reduced cost lunch program offered in our schools. With the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year, HISD is now providing lunches for all students at no cost, but many of these children do not have sufficient food accessible to them on the weekends.

Hillsboro ISD and it’s Superintendent and Counselors helped identify the children most in need of assistance. Their identity is not released, but Hill County Kids put together a low cost “kid friendly” menu, and the “snack pack” bags are delivered to the schools by volunteers and then distributed by the school counselors to the students.

The program serves an average of 200 Hillsboro students in Head Start through Junior High, and has been extended to include Bynum Schools, with the eventual goal to serve all of Hill County. Donations and volunteers to the program should visit the “Get Involved” page on the Hill County Kids website.
